Nilgiri Tahrs
Munnar: As many as 30 Nilgiri Tahr kids were born in Eravikulam National Park so far in this season. Eight kids were born in the tourism zone of Rajamalai alone. The rest were found in other parts of the Park.
The breeding season of Tahrs started by the end of January. Six kids were born in the last week of January, including in the tourism zone. Hence, the national park is closed till April 1.
According to a survey conducted by the Forest Department in the last year, 66 kids were born in this area. Also, according to a count by the Forest Department in 2021, there are 894 Tahrs in the region.
