Malappuram: The family of a three-year-old girl who was subjected to brutality by her grandmother in Kalikavu here has informed that they are not interested to take care of the child. They informed that they have no objection to hand over custody of the girl to the Childline. They also said that they are not interested to take care of the child due to financial crisis.

It is learnt that the family is reluctant to care the child due to superstitious belief that the three-year-old is a curse to the family. As per reports, some charmer had convinced the family that the girl will bring bad luck to the family. Following this, they locked the kid in a dark room, starved and manhandled.

Meanwhile, the family has agreed to accept other three kids and their mother. The Childline had rescued the other day four children who were denied treatment and food. The Childline officials had also rescued their mother and brought all of them to shelter home. It was the grandmother of the children who tortured them in the name of superstition.

The children were not sent to schools or anganwadi. Among the four children, the three-year-old girl is said to be critical. She looked skeletal due to starvation and torture. The grandmother used to beat the other children also.
