Kochi: The 3-year-old boy who was brutally attacked by his mother in Aluva and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital succumbed to the injuries on Friday morning. The child was hit on the head and had undergone surgery in Aluva. He continued to be critical even after surgery and his condition deteriorated this morning. The right side of the brain was fully damaged, doctors said.
The mother of the boy, who is from Jharkhand, was arrested for attempt to murder and under Juvenile Justice Act.
The boy was suspected to have been tortured by his mother and he continued to remain in coma without any response. The boy suffered bleeding in brain and the clots were removed through surgery. The boy also suffered multiple bruises on lower limbs and burn injuries too.
The real cause of death could be ascertained only after the post mortem.
The three-year-old boy who sustained injuries on head under suspicious circumstances was hospitalised on Wednesday. The parents brought the child to hospital claiming he fell off a building.
When the hospital authorities found burn injuries besides the wounds, they informed Eloor police and the Childline. Following this, police interrogated the parents and the mother confessed that she had beaten up the child.
Police have launched a thorough probe extending it to their native places in Jharkhand.
The shocking incident came to light when the boy's father brought him to the hospital Wednesday night saying he had injured himself by falling off a desk. Suspecting foul play, the doctors informed police.
The government had also sent a team of experts from the Government Medical College Hospital, Kottayam for providing better medical care to the child.
A police team left from here to Jharkhand to get details about the child's family and also to find out whether the father and mother were his biological parents.
