3 accused in gold smugging case admit to crime; NIA seeks extention of custody period
Kochi: NIA has filed a request in court to extend the custody period of the accused in gold smuggling case to 180 days. NIA informed the court that apart from Sandeep, three other accused have also admitted to the crime.
The custody period of the accused can be extended up to 180 days as per UAPA act. NIA’s request was made on this basis. A special plea will have to be filed after 90 days. Hence, NIA filed the plea on Friday.
The investigation in the case is progressing. Two accused, including Faisal Fareed, are under the custody of UAE police. They have to be repatriated to India. NIA pointed all these matters in the court.
Musthafa, Abdul Asees and Nandagopal are the accused who have admitted to the crime other than Sandeep.
