251 sexual assault cases against cops in 6 years, reveals CM in assembly

Thiruvananthapuram: 251 sexual assault cases were registered against cops in the past six-and-half years, revealed Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the state assembly on Wednesday.

While replying to a query raised by MLA Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan in the assembly, Vijayan said that 58 sexual assault cases were registered against cops in 2022. Additionally, the year 2022 recorded the most number of sexual assault cases filed against cops since 2016.

As many as 98,870 sexual assault cases and 2199 murder cases were registered in the state between June 2016 and December 2022.

Further, 22 goonda gangs were found active in various districts. As of 30 January, 2023, 339 individuals were placed under preventive detention under Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
