2400 trees worth Rs 15 cr felled and smuggled; forest dept slams revenue dept
Thiruvananthapuram: The forest department criticised the revenue department over the controversial tree felling case in Kerala. A report of the forest department observed serious lapses from the part of revenue department in identifying the illegal tree felling in 9 districts and preventing it.
2400 trees worth Rs 15 cr were felled and smuggled from the forests. The revenue department’s order was misinterpreted in the illegal mass felling of trees, pointed out the report.
A chief forest official, who is in-charge of vigilance, submitted the report regarding this to the forest department.
The report also mentioned that the revenue officials were hesitant to prevent the crime.
Among the 2400 smuggled trees, 90 percent include teak and rosewood, revealed the report.
