23.2 lakh unorganised workers from Kerala enrol in e-Shram portal; Kozhikode leads

Kannur: 23.2 lakh workers in the unorganised sector in Kerala so far have registered with the Union Labour and Employment Ministry's e-Shram portal. It is a platform for centralised data collection of workers in the sector. Any worker in the informal sector who is not a member of ESIC or EPFO and in the age group of 16-59 can register in the portal.

The total number of workers from the state stands at 23,02,816. Among them, 7,26,826 members enrolled directly. Others made registrations through special drives like enrolment camps. At present, Kozhikode district leads in Kerala. The objective of the data collection is to form a national database of workers in the unorganized sector. This, in turn, will likely act as a ticket for various security schemes.

  5. Palakkad: 1,90,656
  6. Kozhikode: 2,68,577
  7. Kasaragod: 96,462
  8. Kannur: 2,48,137
  9. Wayanad: 70,147
  10. Malappuram: 1,70,352
  11. Pathanamthitta: 79,540
  12. Kottayam: 1,01,346
  13. Idukki: 1,00,851
  14. Ernakulam: 1,92,780
