Accused Muhammad Shafeeq (on right)
Vadakara: Police on Monday arrested a person in connection with the alleged robbery-linked-murder of Vadakara trader on Christmas eve. The arrested has been identified as Muhammad Shafeeq (22), a native of Thrissur.
According to police, the man murdered the trader and fled in the latter’s bike after stealing jewellery and cash. The officials also detailed on the modus operandi of the accused.
The duo came in acquaintance through social media. Shafeeq’s intention was to steal and he realised it won’t be possible if the trader is alive. Hence he decided to kill the person, the police said.
Earlier, preliminary autopsy report noted that the trader was strangled to death. The other shopkeepers in the nearby stores said they had seen a person wearing a blue shirt along with the deceased. Police obtained CCTV visuals which substantiate the statements given by the shopkeepers.
The accused was nabbed based on the probe pursued on that angle. However, police have not yet found the bike, cash and jewellery taken by the accused. The person will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
