2018 floods: Give compensation to pending victims within one month, HC tells govt
Kochi: The High Court on Thursday directed the Kerala government to distribute compensation to pending victims of 2018 floods within one month. According to the HC rule, the financial aid should be paid to the deserving victims within a month.
The court gave the direction while considering the pleas over the delay in providing compensation. It further asked the government the number of victims who were paid the financial aid.
The HC pointed out that a large number of people had not received the compensation even after approving the appeal. It directed the government to publish the details of new applications received in this regard in the government website. However, the government sought more time to prepare it.
Government explained in the court that the workload for officials had doubled as the state was hit by floods were repeated in 2019. The government also argued that officials were busy with flood relief activities.
Following this, the HC granted the government for publishing details in the website.
