200 people trapped in Vaniyampuzha; Army set out for rescue mission
Malappuram: The army has set out to rescue 200 persons trapped in Vaniyampuzha near Munderi in Nilambur here. The team comprises of 28 members including NDRF commandos, 24 jawans and two range officers. The army has a very difficult task to accomplish.
Munderi bridge that connects Vaniyampuzha with outer world had collapsed the other day in landslide. So, the team has to reach the spot through deep forest via Kalikavu forest range. They will have to travel 8 km through the forest to reach there. Due to severe flash flooding in Chaliyar river, the rescue team were waiting at the banks to cross the river.
15 among the people trapped here are the labourers in plantation corporation. Others are tribal people who belong to two colonies in the area. Though NDRF team had arrived at the place for rescue operation earlier, they had to return due to flash flooding.
Meanwhile, landslide occurred in Mundakkai area in Kavalappara. The rescue team has not been informed of the incident. The 28-member team has set out for a rare adventurous mission in Vaniyampuzha.
