20 cops including ACP test COVID +ve in TVM
Thiruvananthapuram: A total of 20 police personnel including Assistant Commissioner of Police in cantonment division tested COVID-19 positive here on Monday.
The ACP had led the police force during the protests staged by opposition parties at the secretariat. On Monday morning, he had attended the unveiling ceremony of Sree Narayana Guru statue here, along with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
After the ACP tested COVID positive, health department officials started preparing the list of people who came in contact with him.
Meanwhile, 19 other police personnel also tested COVID-19 positive on Monday at the state capital.
Also, City Police Commissioner has entered self-quarantine after his security officer tested COVID positive. Harshita Attaluri IPS will be in charge of the city, during his absence.
7 police officials at Peroorkkada police station also tested COVID positive. A total of 50 people had undergone the test at the police station.
11 cops and their family members were tested COVID positive at Thumba.
Earlier, some KSU activists who staged protest demanding KT Jaleel's resignation at the secretariat, also turned COVID positive. Hence, it is suspected that the protests have become a reason for the transmission of the virus.
