Thiruvananthapuram: It has been found that high-level influence was exerted in the posting of policemen Jayaghosh, the UAE consulate gunman who attempted to commit suicide, and Nagaraj at the airport for many years.
Both were assigned facilitation duty at the interest of some higher officials in the police. Their duty of arranging facilities for top police officers was known as 'VIP duty' among other policemen.
Though Jayaghosh and Nagaraj were police officers in the camp, they were shifted to airport duty later. Jayaghosh was working in the emigration department of Thiruvananthapuram airport from 2011 to 2017. Later, he was supposed to return to the camp. But he started working in the consulate.
Nagaraj continued in the facilitation department. Though he was transferred to Valiyathura police station, he was assigned the airport duty again.
When M R Ajith Kumar was the City Police chief, this irregularity was detected and Nagaraj was asked to join duty in the camp. Since then, he is on leave.
Jayaghosh was the gunman of the consul general. As the consul was not always present in Thiruvananthapuram, he did not have much duty also.
