2 men missing after fishing boats capsize in Ponnani, Tanur
Tanur (Malappuram): Two fishermen went missing after their boats capsized in the sea in Ponnani and Tanur in Malappuram. Among the five fishermen who went missing in Tanur, three returned later. Many fishing boats from Ponnani and Tanur areas capsized after the sea turned rough due to bad weather.
The three, who escaped from the boat that capsized in Tanur, managed to swim to Parappanangadi area. The other two could not be traced. The fishermen ventured into the sea from Ottumburam in Tanur. Search operation is continuing to locate Kettungal Kunjumon and Kunjalakath Ubaid. However, the rough sea is affecting the rescue mission.
There were six fishermen in the boat that capsized in Ponnani. A message was received stating that the boat's engine was damaged and water was rushing inside through a crack. At present, the boat is near Edamuttam in Ernakulam. The Coast Guard informed that a rescue mission has started.
In another incident on Sunday, a boat named Noorul Huda, which was carrying four persons, capsized in Ponnani and one of them went missing. The other three managed to swim to Padinjarekkara Nayarthod area. The authorities stated that fisherfolk were warned not to venture into the sea considering the bad weather.
