Idukki: Two civil police officers were suspended after a POCSO case accused escaped from police custody in Nedumkandam here on Monday.

The action was taken against cops, Shameer and Shanu M Wahid, who escorted the accused.

Earlier, the police arrested the accused over alleged sexually assault on his daughter. Following this, the cops produced him before a magistrate. However, he absconded from the scene under police watch, said reports.

SHO and the officer in charge of the General Diary (GD) are likely to face action.

Sources claimed cops failed to ensure adequate security while producing the accused before the court. The accused is still on the run.
