2 dead, 2 missing in landslide in Vadakara; Centre warns of flood in state
Thiruvananthapuram: A landslide was reported from Vilangad in Vadakara in the early morning on Friday morning. Body of two persons who went missing in the landslip has been recovered from the debris. The deceased persons are idenitfied as Lissy and Benny.
Search operation is continuing to find out Benny's wife Marykutty and son Athul who went missing in landslip. Three houses were covered in soil completely. Fire force and Tahsildar could not reach the spot due to mudslide and flooding.
More than 40 persons are trapped under soil in Puthumala due to mud slip in Meppadi in Wayanad. Landslides and water logging is reported from many places in Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Malappuram districts. The red alert has been extended to Friday.
The water level in Periyar, Valapattanam, Kuthirappuzha and Kurumanpuzha rivers have increased to a dangerous level. The people dwelling in the banks of rivers are alerted. The meteorological centre has predicted extremely heavy rain in the state on Friday and Saturday. However, the rain is likely to decline by Sunday.
Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has informed that the Central Water Commission has issued flood alert to 11 districts in the state. The rivers flowing through the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod are likely to overflow leading to flood, as per the alert issued by the water commission.
