Kochi police busts fake visa racket, 2 held

Kochi: Ernakulam rural crime branch unit busted a fake visa racket and arrested two individuals here on Monday. The accused are identified as Jobin Michael (35), a Kasaragod native, and Prithviraj Kumar (47), from Palakkad. The duo had issued fake visas to several people for travelling to European countries like Spain after collecting a large sum of money.

Earlier, a young woman and two others were deported from Spain for travelling with a fake visa. Based on the details provided by them, police were able to arrest the culprits on Monday.

Minimum educational qualifications and related documentations are mandatory for visa processing. The accused had obtained fake visa after producing bogus documents. Following this, these visas were sold to people. According to police, the accused collected Rs 6 lakh from each applicant.

Police said that the accused cheated applicants who only had Plus 2 qualification. They were deported back to India after they were caught upon landing in Spain using Fake visas.
