Thiruvananthapuram: Students of Abidha teacher set out from Tirurangadi to Thiruvananthapuram to visit her after 36 years. The 70 year-old Abidha teacher could remember only a few students now. However, she quickly recognised Ameer Hamsa, who was the mischievous student in Xth A. Avukkader Kutti, class leader of 9th E and Majeed, who failed in many classes, are etched in the memories of Abidha teacher.
The students, united to visit their teachers, had studied in the 1986 SSLC batch of Govt High School, Tirurangadi in Malappuram. They visited seven teachers in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts by naming ‘Gurudarshanam 2022’ for their trip.
The 33 member students’ team visited Kollam- Ayoor native Thankachan teacher, Gangadharan teacher in Adoor, Omallur natives and couple Rajan and Geetha; Jagathamma and Padmavathi teacher in Alappuzha. The students handed presents and memento to their beloved teachers and spent time with them. Though they wished to see Kareepra native Chacko teacher, the visit was postponed considering his health condition.
‘Gurudarshanam 2022’ remains unique as the students visited their teachers at their residence, instead of organising meet-ups at schools. The plan to visit teachers came up in the WhatsApp group of 1986 batch alumni with over 150 members. The team had already visited 12 teachers residing in Tirurangadi and nearby regions.
