Kozhikode: 190 medical staff of Kozhikode Medical College have been quarantined after coming in contact with a COVID positive patient. 107 doctors from Gynaecology, General Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Neuro Surgery, Plastic surgery, Urology and Anasthesia departments, 42 nurses and 41 paramedical staff, X-ray and ECG technicians have been sent in quarantine. The samples of 120 medical staffs have already been sent for testing.
A pregnant woman was admitted in the hospital for delivery on May 24. She had undergone cesarean then. After the surgery, she started bleeding and her condition became complicated. As a result, doctors including Cardio Thoracic surgeon treated her till 8.30 pm. Many medical staff also came into contact with her as around 10 medical departments were involved in treatment. Her COVID-19 test results came positive on June 4.
Authorities have not been able to trace the source from where the woman contracted the virus. Her second sample has been sent for testing in Alappuzha Virology Lab.
