18 trains cancelled in Kerala within 10 days
Kochi: As the number of passengers decline considerably, a total of 18 trains running through Kerala were cancelled within 10 days. More trains are likely to be cancelled in the coming days. Since many migrant workers are returning home, only long distance trains carry passengers.
The Antyodaya Express to Mangaluru had passengers in only two coaches on Saturday. First, the Railway experimented by reducing the number of coaches. Kochuveli-Banaswadi and Ernakulam-Banaswadi trains to Bengaluru were stopped indefinitely since last week.
South Western Railway cancelled the Yeswanthpur-Kannur Express on Monday without specifying when the train service would be available. With this, there are no trains to Bengaluru from Malabar. Soon after this, the Southern Railway cancelled 12 trains too.
As the restrictions imposed in the state are similar to a lockdown, people who reach by trains do not have transportation facilities. This is one of the reasons in the decreasing number of passengers in train.
Only the employees are commuting by train at present. As the attendance in government offices have been reduced to 25 percent from Tuesday onwards, the number of train passengers will decline further.
