18 new coronavirus hotspots in Kerala on Friday; total 555
Thiruvananthapuram: With the number of COVID-19 cases crossing the 1,500 mark for the second consecutive day, Kerala declared 18 more areas as hotspots on Friday.
Seven areas were removed from the list of hotspots. With this, the total number of hotspots in the state touched 555.
In Kollam district, Sasthamkotta (Containment zone ward 5, 8), West Kallada (6), Sooranad South (11) and Poruvazhy (4,5) were declared as hotspots. Erumapetty (17), Mattathur (4, 5 sub wards) and Venkitangu (1,3,17) in Thrissur district and Thiruvanvandoor (2, 9) and Pallippuram (10, 16) in Alappuzha district also became hotspots.
Rayamangalam (19) and Vadavukodu (sub ward 15) in Ernakulam district and Kalanjoor (15, 17 sub wards) and Pandalam municipality (20, 21) in Pathanamthitta were also named as hotspots. Thuneri (1) in Kozhikode Mooppainadu (9, 12) in Wayanad, Muttom (10) in Idukki, Kottoppadam (10) in Palakkad and Areekode (4, 6, 7, 12, 13, 14, 16) in Malappuram district were also added to the list of hotspots.
Meanwhile, 7 regions were excluded from the list of hotspots. Cheriyanad (ward 8) in Alappuzha and Avinissery (9) and Pazhayannur (8, 9, 16) in Thrissur district were removed from the list of hotspots.
At the same time, Pozhuthana (sub ward 10) and Kaniyambatta (5) in Wayanad, Arukutty (7) in Alappuzha and Ezhukon in Kollam district were also removed from the list of containment zones.
