17-year-old girl murdered in front of house in TVM; male friend taken into custody


Thiruvananthapuram: Police have taken a youth into custody for allegedly murdering a 17-year-old girl by slitting her throat in Varakala. Sangeetha, a first-year degree student at Sreeshankara College, was found dead in front of her house on Tuesday morning.

Following this, Gopu, a Pallikal native, was taken into custody. According to police, Gopu approached Sangeetha's house in the wee hours of Tuesday and contacted her. She confronted him outside her house. However, their conversation ended in a quarrel and Gopu attacked her using a knife and slit her throat.

It is suspected that they were in a relationship for some time and ended it. Police also located the knife used by the accused and mobile phone at the crime scene. Further, the locals said they saw the accused fleeing from the area after the attack. Meanwhile, police took Gopu into custody for further questioning.
