Nadapuram: Police recovered 16 bombs from a vacant land in Chelakkad near here on Friday. The officials recovered 13 pipe bombs and three steel bombs.
The bombs were recovered from a vacant land near the Chelakkad fire station belonging to Vannathankandi Moosa around 12 pm. Labourers who had come to the spot to dig soil for constructing a house noticed the bombs and alerted the police.
The bombs, wrapped inside plastic bags, were kept inside a bucket and buried underground. On information, the police and dog squad came to the spot and held inspection. The bombs are extremely powerful.
Earlier also, bombs were recovered from a vacant land in Chelakkad. The police are on high alert following the incident, with counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections on the horizon.
The police have intensified searches. The bombs will be taken to a quarry in Chelakkad and destroyed.
