Thiruvananthapuram: The third session of the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly has begun here on Monday. The Opposition has moved the adjournment motion notice regarding the allotment of more seats for Plus One admission. This is the first adjournment motion during this Assembly session.
The Opposition moved the notice on adjournment motion stating that the number of Plus One seats is inadequate and that more seats must be allowed and that this matter must be discussed in the session. It had been stated in the notice given by Shafi Parambil that the problems faced by students must be addressed.
However, Education Minister V Sivankutty made it clear in the session that more batches cannot be allowed. There are 4,69,219 applications received for a total of 2,71,736 seats through the single window portal. The minister informed the House that 1,92,959 seats will be newly available once the vacant seats in quotas including sports quota are shifted to the general quota.
The agenda of this Assembly session is lawmaking. The priority will be to make laws out of nearly 45 ordinances that are pending. Issues including Monson Mavunkal’s fraud case are expected to be brought up during the session.
