15,730 extra polling booths to be opened for assembly election


If no space is available in the compound, temporary booth can be arranged in 200 metre area. Private buildings can be taken only if government buildings are unavailable.

Thiruvananthapuram: State Chief Electoral Officer Teeka Ram Meena informed that 15,730 extra polling booths will be set up for the state assembly elections considering the COVID situation. With this, the total number of polling booths will touch 40,771.

Extra polling booths will be arranged in buildings where there are polling booths already. If this is not possible, new polling booths should be arranged on the same compound. Temporary buildings can be constructed for this purpose.

The collectors should discuss with representatives of political parties and seek their permission. Teeka Ram Meena added that he has directed to submit a report about the extra booths within a week.
