13 child abuse cases within 14 days in Malappuram
Malappuram: Within 14 days of this month, 13 cases of child abuse were reported in Malappuram Childline. Close relatives of the victims are the culprits in majority of these cases. Even FIR is not registered in many cases.
Two children were abused in Mankada with the consent of their mother only 10 days ago. When the incident turned into a controversy, the culprit influenced the mother and the child. Now the case is likely to be dropped without even registering the FIR.
There were proper evidence present in the incident in which a 17-year-old was abused by his foster father in Areekode. The issue was disclosed after the child’s mother approached a counsellor seeing the child stressed out. Though the child explained the incident to the police, they did not register an FIR.
Another incident in which a girl was abused by her own father and became pregnant was widely discussed. The police registered FIR in this case only after the Childline intervened. An auto driver abused a 6-year-old boy at Thenhippalam showing him porn videos.
Three children were subjected to unnatural sexual abuse in Melattur last week. More number of boys were sexually abused in the district in previous times whereas the number of boys and girls subjected to abuse is almost equal nowadays.
In 2016, 177 cases of child abuse were reported in Malappuram and 160 cases were reported in 2017. Within 5 months, 113 cases have been registered in the district in 2018.
