Thiruvananthapuram: A local court here sentenced 11 people, including a Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) state leader, to life term, in the murder of Anavoor Narayanan Nair, a CPM branch secretary. The convicts allegeldy belong to RSS.
Narayanan Nair was hacked to death in front of his family on November 5, 2013, while trying to save his son, Siva Prasad, an SFI worker, from the attack. Siva Prasad and his brother were severely injured in the incident. It was reported that tension between CPM-BJP workers in the area had led to the incident.
Earlier, the Neyyattinkara additional sessions court found the accused guilty in the incident. The accused are KSRTC Employees Sangh (BMS) state secretary Vellamkolli Rajesh (47), Anil (32), Prem Kumar (36), Prasad Kumar (35), Gireesh Kumar (41), Arun Kumar (36), Baiju (42), Sajikumar (43), Ajayan (33), Binu (43) and Gireesh (48).
Prosecution had sought death sentence for Rajesh and four others accused in the case.
During the court proceedings, RSS and CPM workers had gathered outside the building, forcing authorities to beef up security in the area.
