10,000 policemen to be deployed in Sabarimala in 5 phases
Thiruvananthapuram: As the Sabarimala season is set to begin on Saturday (November 16), 10,017 security personnel will be deployed on the premises of the temple. This time, the police will make arrangements for the security in five phases during the ‘Mandala- Makaravilakku’ pilgrimage. The chief police coordinator is law and order ADGP Shaik Darvesh Saheb. The tight security is being planned as the Supreme Court’s verdict of the review petition in connection with the entry of women to the shrine will be coming out soon.
The security group will include 112 DySPs, 264 Inspectors, 1185 SI/ ASIs and 24 SP and ASPs. 307 women officers, 8402 Civil Police Officers and Senior Civil Officers will also be deployed.
In the first phase, 2551 officers will be deployed in Pamba, Nilakkal and Pathanamthitta. Out of these, three officers will SP-level police controllers, two will be ASP-level Additional Police Controllers. Also there will be 23 DySP ranked officers. In the second phase, 2539 officers will be assigned in Sabarimala. The third and fourth phases will have 2992 and 3077 officers reach the temple premises. 1560 special branch officers will also be deployed in Sannidhanam, Pamba and Nilakkal regions.
