Thiruvananthapuram: The first consignment of Covishield vaccines allotted to Kerala reached Kochi on Wednesday from the Serum Institute around 10.45 am. The Go Air flight carrying the vaccine for Ernakulam and Kozhikode landed at the airport at 10.35 am. From Nedumbassery airport, the vaccines were shifted to regional vaccine store in Ernakulam general hospital.
The vaccines stored in the regional vaccine store will be distributed to nearest districts Palakkad, Kottayam, Thrissur and Idukki around noon.
Special refrigerated vans were arranged to transport the vaccine safely to the respective centres. Transfer of vaccine boxes from the plane to vans was completed in 10 minutes, officials said.
Out of the 25 boxes, 15 will be distributed in Ernakulam. The highest number of people are registered for vaccination from Ernakulam.
4,35,500 doses of vaccine have been allotted to Kerala and out of this, 1100 vaccine vials are meant for distribution in Mahe.
Thiruvananthapuram will get 1,34,000 doses, Ernakulam 1,80,000 doses and Kozhikode will get 1,19,500 doses.
The second consignment of vaccines will reach Thiruvananthapuram by Wednesday evening around 6. This will be stored at the Regional vaccine store in Thiruvananthapuram and is meant for distribution to Kollam, Pathanamthitta and Alappuzha districts on January 14.
The vaccines for Thiruvananthapuram will reach the distribution centres on January 15.
