Thiruvananthapuram: As many as 1,707 teachers and non-teaching staff of schools in Kerala have not received the Covid-19 vaccination, general education minister V Sivankutty said here on Saturday. In the initial assessment, it was reported that around 5,000 officials haven't taken the jab.
In the LP and UP and high school sections, 1,066 teachers and 189 staff remain unvaccinated. In higher secondary schools, 429 teachers and 23 staff did not receive the jab, the minister said.
The Government had said on Friday that it would publicise the unvaccinated teachers' names. However, Sivankutty retracted the statement by evening and said only numbers will be published. All unvaccinated teachers will be served with a show-cause notice. They will have to produce RTPCR negative certificate every week.
More number of teachers and non-teaching staff who are yet to receive the vaccine is from Malappuram and the least number is from Wayanad, the minister said.
