'I did not demand ED probe on Kunhalikutty’s deposits at AR Nagar bank,' says KT Jaleel
Kozhikode: Facing all criticisms over ED remarks with a smiling face, Thavanur MLA KT Jaleel has told Mathrubhumi.com that the ongoing controversies are baseless and he never demanded an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe on black money deposits at AR Nagar Cooperative Bank.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Minister for Cooperatives VN Vasavan and CPM Acting Secretary A Vijayaraghavan had earlier criticised Jaleel for seeking ED probe against Kunhalikutty over his alleged black money deposits in AR Nagar Cooperative Bank. Jaleel was also directed to avoid such public statements that landed CPM in trouble.
“I did not approach ED requesting a probe against Kunhalikutty and AR Nagar Cooperative Bank. But ED had approached me seeking clarification on my submission in the assembly about a financial irregularity worth Rs 10 crores at Chandrika daily; not something associated with AR Nagar bank,” said Jaleel.
He also said that he has all documents ready in hand to submit before the officials of ED. “At 4 pm on Thursday, I will reach ED office to submit the documents. If officers ask me anything about AR Nagar issue, I won’t hesitate to comment.”
When asked about the chief minister’s comment, he said, “In fact, he was misled by the journalist who asked the question.”
Jaleel also said that the Reserve Bank of India and Income Tax Department have been inquiring the irregularities at AR Nagar bank. “Let these agencies complete the probe.”
In the meantime, a retired CBI official told Mathrubhumi.com that such arguments on the need and needlessness of ED probe is funny. “Those who speak like this have no idea about the power of the body. Earlier, a predicate offence was required for ED to intervene in any case. However, it is not needed now. ED can start a probe on AR Nagar bank irregularity or Chandrika daily row by its own will; no matter who objects it,” he added.
