‘Govt, church disowned us’; Nuns to protest against bishop
Kochi: The nuns at Kuruvilangad convent alleged that they have been disowned by the government and the church in the sexual abuse case against Jalandhar bishop Franco Mulakkal.
They told Mathrubhumi News that justice have been denied to them and hence they are preparing to stage a protest. The five nuns also affirmed that they stand in solidarity with the complainant nun.
“There is no one to protect us. We will stand firm with the complainant nun. There are efforts in the background to sabotage the case,” they said. We will take part in the protest march organized by KCRM in Kochi, they added.
The nuns started off from Kuruvilangad to Kochi to take part in the protest organized at High Court junction in Kochi which will begin around 10 am on Saturday.
They had hoped that the church leadership would reach take a favourable decision but it didn’t happen. After being circumvented they proceeded legally.
But even then, the arrest of the bishop is not happening. So we are proceeding with the protest, they informed.
There were 9 nuns in the Kuruvilanagd convent including the complainant. One among them has left the order. Six nuns including the one who launched the complaint had taken stand against the bishop.
