'Behera's appointment as Vigilance chief violates norms'
Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Loknath Behera was appointed as Vigilance Director violating the rules, an RTI document has revealed. It shows that the appointment was made without seeking permission of the Union Home Ministry.
As per the IPS cadre rules, the permission of Union Home Ministry is required even if to appoint a person in a leave vacancy for more than a month.
The RTI reply says that the state government had neither sought permission of the ministry nor officially informed them regarding the appointment of Behera.
For that reason, his appointment is a violation of rules. Behera was appointed as the vigilance director, replacing Jacob Thomas, on March 31, 2017.
