Wrong to slap UAPA on students; Govt should rectify, says Prakash Karat
New Delhi: CPM politburo member Prakash Karat opined that slapping of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act charges on students is wrong. He also said that government and police should rectify their mistakes.
Mere possession of brochures won’t make them Maoists. Police have acted wrongly, he said, adding that CPM has always opposed the UAPA Act.
Earlier, CPM party general secretary Sitharam Yechury had also taken similar stance.
Two youth Alan Shuhaib and Thaha Fasala were arrested from Kozhikode the other day over alleged Maoist links. CPM has appointed a three-member committee to probe into the matter.
