Chennai: Madras High Court has asked why the case of Fathima Latheef’s death has not been handed over to CB-CID. The court made the remark while examining the petitions that demanded an enquiry into the mysterious deaths including that of Fathima’s, inside IIT Madras.
However, Tamil Nadu state government has informed the court that central crime branch is investigating the death of the student and CB-CID investigation is not required at present.
Loktantrik Yuva Janata Dal approached the High Court seeking an enquiry into all deaths that happened in IIT Madras after 2016. The petition, which accuses the Tamil Nadu police of complacency, also calls for actions to stop suicides in IIT campuses.
Demanding a CBI probe into the case, the petition also pointed out Supreme Court had directed for a CBI investigation when a similar case happened in 2015. The petition filed then by NSU in the same is under the consideration of the High Court.
