Veteran journalist Sam Rajappa passes away

Chennai: Veteran journalist Sam Rajappa (77) passed away at his son's residence in Canada on Sunday.

He retired as senior editor after having a long stint with ‘The Statesman’, a daily newspaper based in Kolkata. He also worked for India Today and Deccan Chronicle.

He was also the consultant editor when Mathrubhumi started its Chennai edition.

He was the one who gave national coverage to the news of the death of P Rajan, an engineering college student by the Kerala police during the Emergency.

He hails from Marthandam in Kanyakumari district. Wife: Grace (Late); Children: Sanjay (Canada), Manoj(Fiji).
