Sabarimala women entry: Fali S Nariman opposes formation of larger bench in SC

Solicitor General Thushar Metha, appearing for the government said that the apex is within its right to form a larger bench.

New Delhi: The proceedings have begun in Supreme Court over the formation of larger bench in Sabarimala case. The Central Government argued in favor of the formation of the larger bench. The government informed that the questions in front of the larger bench is not connected to the review petition of Sabarimala women entry case.

Fali S Nariman argued that Sabarimala devotees cannot be considered as a different sect. Solicitor General Thushar Mehta, appearing for the government, said that the apex court is within its right to form a larger bench. He said that the bench was formed as per the order passed on November 14.

Solicitor General said that those who are not party to Sabarimala case are coming up with obstructions. Meanwhile, the Chief Justice said that only certain legal problems were send to the consideration of the larger bench. However, this was opposed by Fali S Nariman.
