Kottayam: Indian Railways has rolled out QR-based services, including season ticket renewal at stations. With the integration of QR code-based system in Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) installed in railway stations, travellers now can get train tickets (including general/unreserved), platform tickets and renew season ticket.
The facility is available in all major railway stations of Southern Railway. The travellers can scan the QR code displayed in the ATVMS using their mobile phones and avail various services. The travellers will also get printed tickets through the ATVMS.
Payments can be done through digital wallets and UPI platforms such as Google Pay, Paytm and PhonePe.
Until now smart card-based services were available. Retired officials were appointed in major railway stations for aiding the users with the facility. With QR-based services, users now can easily avail the services themselves.
Similarly, an app called ‘UTS on’ has been rolled out for train travellers to book unreserved tickets on their mobile phones.
