Puducherry: Students of Pondicherry university on Thursday boycotted classes following a call by the Students' Council and occupied the administrative block top mark their protest against fee hike.
The major demands of the council included revocation of fee hike, withdrawal of transportation fee and reservation for Pondicherry native students. The Students' Council stated that the struggle would continue until the fee hike is revoked.
“The struggle is against the unacceptable attitude of PU administration towards the proposed demands. Following a hunger strike by representatives of the former council, a grievance committee- which included students' representatives- was formed to address these concerns. But the Vice Chancellor and the administration consistently remained reluctant. This is a struggle to retain public education accessible and affordable for every student,” said PUSC President Parichay Yadav.
The Students’ Council stated that the strike will go indefinitely until the administration is ready to meet the concerns proposed.
