New farm bills will corporatize agricultural sector, say Left MPs
New Delhi: MPs of Left parties stated that farm bills passed by the Rajya Sabha will corporatize the agricultural sector in India.
Elamaram Karim MP stated that the three laws passed through ordinance during the pandemic should not have been passed. Lakhs of farmers are protesting. The opposition’s demand to send the bill before a select committee and to listen to everyone’s opinion was dismissed.
MV Shreyams Kumar MP stated that the bill should not have been passed with haste during the pandemic. He added that their demand to conduct a vote on the issue was not approved.
“The bills, which will directly affect the lives of millions of farmers, have been passed. The argument that the bills were passed to protect the interests of farmers is not true,” said MV Shreyams Kumar MP.
“Even Shiromani Akali Dal, which is an ally of NDA, protested against the bill and one of their ministers even resigned from the cabinet. The bill will sabotage the current system of procurement and storage of agricultural products,” he added.
