New Delhi: Police blocked ET Mohammed Basheer MP who arrived at Kanpur to visit the location where riots happened. Violent attacks were unleashed in Kanpur following the controversial remarks of BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma against Prophet Muhammad.

A team led by the MP headed to Kanpur on Thursday. However, the Kanpur police stopped them and informed that they would not be allowed to visit the places where the riots erupted as the issue still looms over here. Though the MP raised his protest against the cops by sitting on the road, the police refused to let him. Later, ET Mohammed Basheer informed that he returned to Delhi from Kanpur considering the request of the higher officials in the department.

ET alleged that the police have been engaging in boorish measures in the riot-affected area without allowing anyone from outside to enter there. He had sent a letter to the speaker in connection with the issue.

‘Sangh Parivar governments have to stop the act of constantly harassing the religious minority groups. Fascism has stretched its hold by even not allowing others to visit or console the affected people’, said the MP. He urged the secular people of the nation to raise their voice against injustices happening in Kanpur.

Though a riot erupted between two different communities in Kanpur, more cases were registered against one particular group. It has been alleged that procedures are progressing here to confiscate the properties of many of them. ET Mohammed Basheer MP had attempted to visit the riot-stricken area following these reports .
