Kanhaiya Kumar was assaulted: medical report
New Delhi: Medical report has confirmed that JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar was assaulted on the premises of the Patyala House court. According to the report prepared by doctors of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, there are injuries on his right toe, left feet, and nose.
Kanhaiya, who had been arrested on sedition charges by the Delhi Police, was beat up by a lawyer when he was produced before court on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear the bail petition of Kanhaiya Kumar on Friday.
Kanhaiya yesterday moved the Supreme Court for bail and release from custody under Article 32 of the Constitution, saying "fear for the safety of life and limb" at the Delhi sessions court had compelled him to approach the apex court directly for release.
Kanhaiya's bail petition will be argued by former Attorney General Soli Sorabjee. Kanhaiya in petition has said that there is repeated breakdown of law and order at the Patiala House Courts despite directives of the apex court, making it impossible for him and his lawyers to approach the session's court for bail.
Meanwhile, a panel of lawyers, comprising senior advocates Kapil Sibal, Rajeev Dhawan, Dushyant Dave, Harin Raval and advocate A D N Rao, submitted a report in a sealed cover including a pen drive on mobile phone recordings of the violence at the sessions court.
