Health ministry recommends total lockdown in 150 districts
New Delhi: The central government is mulling strict measures including total lockdown in the wake of surging Covid cases in the country. The union health ministry has recommended for a lockdown in 150 districts in India where the Covid test positivity rate is over 15 percent. Only essential services will be allowed if lockdown is implemented.
The recommendation was given at the high-level meeting convened on Tuesday. However, the final decision on lockdown will be taken after discussions with the states.
Meanwhile union health ministry has reiterated the need for stringent measures to bring the pandemic situation under control.
A senior official from health ministry stated that lockdown is essential for atleast next few weeks to decrease the test positivity rate.
In case of Kerala, most of the districts have a test positivity rate over 15 percent. The TPR in state stands at 23.24 percent.
