Efforts to save teacher behind my daughter’s death, alleges Fathima’s father
Chennai: In connection with the suicide of IIT Madras student Fathima, her father Lathif has alleged that there were efforts to save the teacher whom he alleged as the person responsible for the death of his daughter.
Lathif met the DGP regarding the case and is expected to visit the chief minister. Lathif also sought to probe the earlier student suicides at IIT-Madras.
“It is said that my daughter committed suicide, but where did that rope come from? I had asked for the CCTV images but nothing was given to me. I met the DGP and asked him to conduct a fair and effective probe which he assured. I have demanded the officials to examine Fathima’s mobile phone in our presence. I will meet the chief minister in this regard,” Lathif told media after meeting the DGP.
“The CBCID started their investigation the other day. It is too early to say if I am satisfied with the probe. I have handed over a note by my daughter which stated that Sudarshan Padmanabhan was the reason behind her death,” Lathif said.
He sharply criticised IIT Madras officials and their attitude regarding the incident. “The IIT officials behaved very badly to me. Despite losing my daughter, none of the IIT officials or teachers called me,” he said.
“Fathima, who reaches her hostel at 8 pm every day, was sitting inside the IIT campus at 9 pm crying for an hour on November 8. A woman with fair complexion came to her and wiped her tears. I don’t know who it was. But something had happened on the day my daughter died. Senior police officials must investigate what sort of abuse my daughter had faced from her teacher Sudarshan Padmanabhan. There should not be any more Fathimas. The life of a talented student like her should not have ended this way,” Lathif said.
Lathif sought the help of media to find the culprits behind the death of Fathima. “There must be clarity regarding the circumstances which led to the death of Fathima. It must be found out if Fathima’s death was a suicide or a murder. Only media can help in that. I cannot come to Chennai and investigate who were responsible for my daughter’s death. Keralite students have died in IIT earlier. But nobody has investigated those incidents,” said Lathif.
Lathif stated that Fathima had complained about Sudarshan Padmanabhan earlier also and wanted his daughter to be the last student to have such a tragic fate.
