New Delhi: The Kerala government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
Kerala is the first state to file a petition against the CAA. The petitions pointed out that CAA was discriminative and in violation of fundamental rights.
The petition has been filed on the basis of Article 131 of the constitution which provides appellate jurisdiction of Supreme Court in appeals from High Courts in certain cases.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had discussed with legal experts about moving the apex court against CAA when he came to attend the CPM politburo meeting last week.
The SC is hearing petitions against CAA on January 23. It is this situation the state government has moved the apex court.
