Bengaluru: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) failed to win any of the four contested constituencies it contested in Karnataka Assembly elections.

The party faced massive loss to the voter base in Bagepalli, where it had high hopes. Candidate Anil Kumar managed to secure only the third place, with Congress candidate N Subbareddy winning the seat with 82,128 votes. The BJP increased its vote share to come in second.

Anil Kumar got 11 per cent of votes. CPM had secured 31.43 percent votes in the 2018 elections. CPM has represented this constituency thrice before. Although Janata Dal (Secular) and CPI announced their support for CPM in Bagepalli, it did not lead to victory for the party.

In the previous elections, Subbareddy defeated CPM's GV Sreerama Reddy with a margin of 14,013 votes. JD(S) had secured 38,302 votes. Subbareddy won the constituency in 2013 as an independent candidate despite facing competition from CPM, INC, and JD(S).

CPM has a history of winning in Bagepalli, having secured victory thrice in 1983, 1994, and 2004. Sreerama Reddy had won twice from the constituency (1994, 2004). However, he was removed from the party central committee and as Karnataka state committee secretary for alleged misconduct in 2018. Sreerama Reddy passed away exactly a year ago at the age of 68.

In KR Pura (Bengaluru Urban), Gulbarga Rural and KGF, the party could bag only around 1,000 votes.
