Congress to field Malayali candidate in Mumbai election
Mumbai: Malayali candidate George Abraham will represent Congress in the upcoming Assembly election in Maharashtra. Abraham, who hails from Varappuzha in Ernakulam district, will contest in Kalina constituency in the state.
He was elected thrice from Kalina to the Bombay Muncipal Corporation. He is contesting for the first time in assembly elections. CD Ummachan and Annie Shekhar are the only Malayalees to have been elected to the Legislative Assembly previously from the state. They contested from Kalina (previously known as Santacruz) and Colabo constituencies respectively. The Christian votes in the Kalina-Santacruz area and the Muslim Votes in Kurla area will play a major role in determining the winner.
Kalina is one of the constituencies where Congress is expected to win in the state. 2009 was the last time Congress won there. Ex minister Kripashankar Singh emerged victorious then.
