New Delhi: The Congress leadership has disregarded the suggestions of Shashi Tharoor on how to unite the opposition against the BJP government. Tharoor had expressed his opinion that he would have urged any smaller party to take up the responsibility of uniting the opposition if he were the president of the INC.
However, the Congress leadership publicly rebuked Tharoor's statement and announced that the current serving president, Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi will lead the efforts to strengthen the party and promote harmony within the opposition. The Congress party is now willing to make compromises to achieve unity in the opposition.
To appease the Shiv Sena, which criticized him for his earlier anti-Savarkar remark, Rahul Gandhi has distanced himself from the comment. Nevertheless, the party leadership has decided to overlook comments that arise outside the party's official gatherings.
