Centre mulls allowing home-quarantine for repatriated NRIs
New Delhi: The central government is considering to allow home quarantine for the NRIs returning from abroad. Also the government is planning to allow home-cooked food for those who are in government quarantine centres.
Home quarantine is considered for those who have no COVID symptoms. Meanwhile, the government sources said that the quarantine period of 14 days will not be cut short. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will issue a new guideline for home quarantine of NRIs.
Those who have COVID symptoms will be accommodated in government quarantine centres. But the government is considering to provide them food prepared at their houses in a bid to reduce mental stress, said the central government sources.
As NRIs are returning in large numbers, accommodating all of them in government quarantine centres is not practical. Presently, schools, hostels and hotels are turned into quarantine centres. However, this cannot be continued for a longer period as informed by various states. Kerala government also had requested the Centre to allow home quarantine for expats.
