CBI to probe Fathima Latheef’s death, ensures Home Minister Amit Shah
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has ensured the family of Fathima Latheef, the student at IIT Madras who had allegedly committed suicide, that a CBI probe will be conducted into her death.
In a meeting with Latheef, the father of the student, Amit Shah also said that the CBI probe will be conducted under a woman IG.
Latheef met Amit Shah in Delhi under the leadership of the MPs from Kerala. Latheef also submitted a complaint to the Prime Minister and Home Minister along with a petition signed by 37 MPs.
N K Premachandran MP said that apart from probing into Fathima’s death, the mental assault faced by students at higher education intuitions in the country will be conducted.
At present, the Fathima’s father is satisfied with the probe conducted by Tamil Nadu Central Crime Branch. However, a CBI probe will also be conducted along with it. Home Minister has clarified that for CBI to take up the case, there is no need for permission from state government, the MP said adding that there will be changes in the higher education sector.
Latheef responded that he is satisfied with the response from central government. I wish my daughter is the last victim. Such incidents shouldn’t be repeated, he said adding that he garnered support from all political parties to obtain justice.
