New Delhi: A BJP Rajya Sabha member from Uttar Pradesh is about to introduce a private member bill demanding to repeal the Waqf Act.

The presentation of the bill got delayed as the Rajya Sabha adjourned after an opposition uproar over the Adani Group issue.

Rajya Sabha MP Harnath Singh Yadav had also introduced a bill to repeal the Places of Worship Act, 1991.

CPM Rajya Sabha members Elamaram Kareem, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya, V Sivadasan, John Brittas and AA Rahim submitted a notice to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, opposing the two private member bills proposed by the BJP MP.

BJP member from Rajasthan Kirodi Lal Meena had attempted to present a bill demanding the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code seven times in the Rajya Sabha. However, the attempts did not turn successful due to the strong protest raised by the opposition in the house.
